We’ll begin the candlelit vigil at the corner of Crescent Heights and Santa Monica Boulevard at 5:30pm and walk to City Hall on San Vicente for the Paul Starke Awards to honor Luis Xtravaganza Camacho.

Social justice is a concept of fair and just relations between the individual and society. This is measured by the explicit and tacit terms for the distribution of wealth, opportunities for personal activity, and social privileges. As we know, there has been historic inequality with mass incarceration being just one example of systemic racism in this country. Let’s tap into the how the dual epidemics of mass incarceration and HIV have impacted each other and learn what we can do about it and how we can get involved in this struggle right here in Los Angeles.
In 1992, Berkeley, California became the first city in the U.S. to acknowledge Indigenous Peoples’ Day in place of Columbus Day, and since then in California, the cities of Los Angeles and San Francisco have followed suit.
Currently, the states of Florida, Hawaii, Alaska, Vermont, New Mexico, Maine, South Dakota and the District of Columbia have also replaced Columbus Day with Indigenous Peoples' Day.
