Hi, Virginia! Shall we start with introductions?

VC: “I have been working with our community for almost 20 years. I have worked with the AOM Program, MCC Program, and Benefits Program.”

How can Men's Health Foundation help patients with health insurance?

“We assess every patient’s needs when it comes to Insurance benefits and we can assist with the following: Medi-Cal Enrollments, ADAP Enrollments, AOM, and Covered CA.”

Who can qualify for help?

“Anyone can — and should — have access to Health Insurance. Since we have different programs, the Benefit specialist speaks to patients and does a brief assessment to see what type of insurance or program they might qualify for.”

After getting enrolled in a program to help with health insurance, what happens next?

“After that, patients are scheduled to come in and get seen as soon as possible.”

How long do the programs last? Are they temporary?

“It depends. For ADAP and the AOM Program, patients will need to re-certify every six months. Covered CA and MediCal clients will only need to re-certify once a year.”

Can you tell us about some of the changes you've seen for patients enrolled in a program and how this has made a difference in their lives?

“The goal of the Benefits program is to make sure we keep all patients in care. We ensure that they receive quality health insurance to provide optimal health care services. Most importantly, we work hard to provide them with the assistance to pay for premiums or copays for medications. Patients are really appreciative when we assist in getting them enrolled in health insurance and overall happy that they are receiving guidance with their health insurance needs.”

How can someone get started in this program?

To get started in this program, you can call our benefits phone number at 424-245-3044 or the clinic phone number at 310-550-1010. I will reach out to the patient as soon as possible to assess their health care needs and provide any assistance I can.

Thank you so much for your time and the work you do, Virginia. Is there anything you'd like to add before we wrap up?

I want to emphasize that we want to help anyone who would like to know more about health insurance and help get them into primary care to the best of our abilities.
